Tantalum Alloy Tubes and Pipes

Spreadon supplies tantalum and tantalum alloy seamless tubing of consistently high quality. Our seamless process starts by piercing large-diameter billets and forging the tubes down to the required dimensions, eliminating the weak spots that can lead to cracking, holes, or tearing in typical welded tubing. We can also perform eddy current testing to detect leaks and pressure-test tubes to confirm there are no leaks.

Tantalum offers excellent corrosion resistance and is commonly used in chemical processing equipment. To get the most out of the metal’s performance, we recommend our seamless tantalum 2.5% tungsten tubing for demanding applications.

Seamless vs. Welded — Performance Comparison

ConstructionBest Suited ForAdvantagesTrade-offs
Seamless Tube/Pipe Small batches with many specifications Can produce small-specification and capillary tube; good flexibility for varied small-batch orders; homogeneous performance throughout the tube Wall thickness uniformity is harder to control; longer lead time and lower yield; complex equipment and larger capital investment; difficult to produce large-diameter tubes
Welded Tube/Pipe Higher-volume runs, larger diameters Even wall thickness and good inner surface quality; high production efficiency and lower cost; easier to produce large-diameter tubing; shorter lead time and easier quality control Less flexible for many specifications in small batches; weld seam can be a weak point and is harder to clean; ellipticity is harder to control; requires high dimensional precision in the input strip
