About Copper and Copper Alloys
What is Copper?
Copper is a soft, malleable, and ductile metal with very high thermal and electrical conductivity. A freshly exposed surface of pure copper has a pinkish-orange color. Copper is used as a conductor of heat and electricity, as a building material, and as a constituent of various metal alloys.
Red copper is pure copper with good electrical and thermal conductivity, excellent plasticity, and is easy to process under hot and cold pressure. It is widely used in the manufacture of wire, cable, brush, and electro-erosion copper products. It has high purity, fine texture, very low oxygen content, no sand holes or porosity, and excellent conductive performance. After heat treatment, it is suitable for fine striking applications. It can be used in electrical, steam, construction and chemical industries, especially terminal printing circuit boards, copper tape, air cushion, and bus terminals.
Copper alloys are metal alloys that have copper as their principal component. They have high resistance against corrosion. The best-known traditional types are bronze (where tin is a significant addition) and brass (using zinc instead).
